Just a Vegan Dreamwich

I can’t always differentiate between a low-point and a high-point (of the food variety). Like eating cinnamon rolls before dinner and then before brunch. High or low? Going for a run then eating 8 Thin Mint cookies. Going from a vegan phase to eating a Little Caesar’s pizza in the car? Getting granola all around my desk at work from handfuls? Honestly, I kinda consider these all high-points. Gotta live your life, right? One thing I…

Thanksgiving 2014 // A Recap

Change is good, right?! This year Thanksgiving was a different one for me. I stayed in Michigan (instead of flying to Minnesota, like usual) and cooked for my boyfriend, his parents, da roommate, his mom, sister and aunt. So we painted pumpkins gold, bought cloth napkins, planned out the menu, put a wreath on the front door, and lugged tables to the basement bar. I did a bunch of prep at home. Things like making, drying…

Chickpea Sliders with Whipped Feta and Cucumber Slaw

I’m feeling pretty happy about some stuff. For example, I forgot how much I love the song Breaking Up is Hard to Do. It reminds me of my childhood, and it makes me dance… probably a little bit too 80’s + Charlie Brown. (Sorry, downstairs neighor!) And it’s summer, guys! Even though it’s a scorcher in my apartment and it’s kinda too hot to make pizza and feel ok about it.*  And I’m really happy it’s burger…

Banana Bread Remixes for Betty Crocker

Here’s some honesty. I live alone, right? Just me and Elliot the pup. And the truth is, I pretty much never have leftover banana bread. I always WANT to have leftover banana bread for cubing and mixing into ice cream, baking as french toast sticks, or for sandwiching with Nutella and toasted coconut, but when I have banana bread I eat it for every meal. The day I was sorting out the details for this…

Alfajores

As a valentine, would this cookie work with a card that said “I’d alfajore like you to be my valentine.” Is that a stretch? I think that one of these in a cellophane bag is the just the thing to tell someone they’re bomb. I popped all of these (except for the sample cookie, obvz) in the freezer for a cookie emergency of the “Shucks, you’re the best!” variety. I think these cookies are cute…

Homemade Hani O’clock

I love Hanis. I just really do! Go get one from National Coney Island with a coney dog for dessert! Oh! And fries. Definitely, fries. Better yet, make one at home! And the lettuce and tomato makes this sandwich kinda Christmas-y, wouldn’t you say? Anyhow, these are made on fluffy pita bread (like naan!) and are made with swiss and American cheese. I went the swiss and brie route though and it totally tastes similar! Brie melts similarly…

Chocolate Peanut Butter Whoopie Pies

I’m so lucky! My mom and sister, Laura, came to visit for the weekend. We went out for churros, strolled through Eastern Market and bought bouquets of flowers, and went out for sliders. My mom and I mixed up whoopie pie filling and fluffy pancake batter. My sister and I sipped Euro-beers and well, I’m just glad that I had these lovely ladies visiting this weekend. Sometimes you just need to be around people who…

Zucchini Parmesan Sliders

How’d you spend your weekend? I spent mine cutting a sizable zucchini into burger patties, going to a dance-y music yoga class (They played Mariah Carey Fantasy last week!) and livin’ my life watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. (Ugh, Walt is the worst.) You see, I like for my Saturdays to include a morning walk ending in a bagel picnic and for my lunch to be one worth dropping the L-bomb about. Because, the truth…

Picnic Time (Focaccia Sandwich + Salads)

It’s totally spummer out. (Ya know, that season that’s right between spring and summer.) One day it’s 87 and the next day it’s 65. This weather is cray. But on the ideal spummer day it’s good to have picnic fixings on the ready! You see, this day would be about 75 and sunny, and it wouldn’t rain as soon as you sat on your picnic blanket, and you sure wouldn’t cut your thumb on the…
