Homemade Hani O’clock

Homemade Hani // take a megabite

I love Hanis. I just really do! Go get one from National Coney Island with a coney dog for dessert! Oh! And fries. Definitely, fries. Better yet, make one at home! And the lettuce and tomato makes this sandwich kinda Christmas-y, wouldn’t you say?

Anyhow, these are made on fluffy pita bread (like naan!) and are made with swiss and American cheese. I went the swiss and brie route though and it totally tastes similar! Brie melts similarly to American, and so that’s what’s up!

P.S. I totally recommend making the naan too. I’ve made THIS RECIPE from Half-Baked Harvest a few times and I love it so much I’d marry it. It’s awesome for casual pizza-ing, sandwiching, garlic bread-ing and obvz. hani-ing.

Homemade Hani Process // take a megabite

Homemade Hani (makes 8 sandwiches)

Ingredients:

  • 8 pieces of Naan (Make your own!)
  • mayonaise or lemonnaise, optional
  • 12 slices of swiss cheese
  • 8 slices of brie
  • 1 lb. chicken fingers, recipe below
  • lettuce
  • tomatoes

Directions:

  1. Keep your oven on at 350 from the chicken fingers. Place the naan on a baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise, if using, top with swiss and brie. Pop in the oven for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Top with chicken fingers, lettuce and tomatoes. Enjoy!

Panko Crusted Chicken Fingers

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. chicken breast

marinate it –

  • 2 T olive oil
  • 4 T champagne vineger
  • 1 T garlic mustard
  • salt + pepper

panko crust it –

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko

Directions:

  1. Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper on both sides. Whisk together the olive oil, vinegar, garlic mustard, pour over chicken in a shallow dish. Marinate the chicken  for 30 minutes in the fridge.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350F. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Cut the marinated chicken into strips. Divide the flour, eggs, and panko into separate shallow bowls. Dredge the chicken in the flour, shaking off the excess, followed by the egg, and then the panko. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Continue with all the chicken, adding more flour or panko to the bowls as needed.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked though. Serve on homemade hanis.

  1. Umm…. I had no Idea what a Hani was until now!! How this could be is beyond me, but now I need one now! Yea, I want one now at 11:05pm! LOOKS AMAZING! I mean, naan, melted swiss and meted brie! Heck yes!

And THANK YOU for linking my naan. I love that recipe so much and make it all the time. It is my favorite bread recipe on my site!

  2. I honestly can’t think of anything better than a Hani deluxe at Royal Oak National Coney at like, 11pm on a Friday night! Don’t even get me started on the chili cheese fries!

  3. Um, no words can express how much I want to eat this right now! Also, I’ve never been to Coney Island which makes me feel like a bad Michigander but I feel like I don’t need to now that there’s this recipe in the world 🙂

  4. This looks like a lunch OR supper next week…just sayin…and I would love it! Because we do NOT live by a Coney Island..which I really really miss!!

  5. I agree with Sarah, I would like to roll myself up in soft, warm naan! hahaha. Seriously this sounds so good, I love that you added mayo because so many things are better with mayo, especially this sandwich I’m sure! Love your version of chicken fingers. Halleluja, is it lunch time yet?

You are WAY too cute meeting that horse!

  6. This brings back so many memories! When I first started coming to the Detroit area, Marc and his family would take me to Coney Island. I’m not a hot dog fan (I know, I’m horrible) and his mom said to order the Hani! It must be the delicious girl thing to order. Marc always gets 2 coney dogs and chili cheese fries. Always. Your Hani looks incredible!
