Maple Shortbread Fries

Maple Shortbread Fries // take a megabite

I like a day ending with a churro, and so it’s just a fact that I like a dessert that can be dunked. These aren’t churros, but are salty and maple-y shortbread cut into fries that can be dunked at your leisure. They’re super tasty dunked in Nutella (but what isn’t?) but would also be tasty dipped into jam or blueberry coulis.

But beware, you might want to eat quite a few of these. In which case you might want to wear a looser dress to that wedding you’re going to. You might even ask your pup if you look like you ate a bunch of shortbread. Can he tell you’re full off of cookies? You might be inclined to stack them on a plate and bring them to your vet because you know they’re too good to keep around the house and those ladies know what’s up.

So just know that this shortbread is a one-bowl dream. It’s so quick and easy and tasty. Three is not a crowd when it comes to those adjectives, you best believe it.

Salted Maple Shortbread Fries
Recipe adapted from These Guys

Ingredients:

shortbread fries –

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 T cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces and chilled
  • 1 t kosher salt
  • 3 T local maple syrup
  • 1/2 t vanilla
top it –
  • 1 T more local maple syrup
  • sea salt, for sprinkling
  • nutella, for dunking
Directions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350F. Spray an 8ร—8 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Line with parchment paper and spray again.
  2. With an electric mixer, beat together the shortbread ingredients on low until combined, well-mixed, and smooth. Press into the prepared baking dish. Prick with a fork all over, being careful not to press the fork all the way to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the center of the cookies feel firm when lightly pressed and are golden brown all over. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Brush the additional tablespoon of maple syrup over the shortbread and sprinkle with sea salt. Allow to cool in the pan for 30 more minutes. Cut with a sharp knife and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Serve with nutella, and a cup of coffee.

    1. Right? It’s just how it is!

And I love that naan so much that I’ll probably make more as soon as I finish the last piece (today!).

  2. I love shortbread! It’s one of my all time favorite cookies – especially with a little salt sprinkle on top! Yum. And I can’t imagine how yummy once they’re dunked into nutella!

  3. Usually anything shortbread-y calls my name like crazy~and these are such a great idea especially with jam! And by the way. Have you tried Argentinean churros?!!! My oh my, those are THE BEST because they’re made differently from Mexican churros and are shorter, crispier, and they’re filled with dulce de leche…Just letting you know they exist, hehe. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. I melted semi-sweet chocolate bits and drizzled the cookies. I also added 1/2 t. maple extract. Fabulous! And so easy! Will definitely make these again!
