Oatmeal Maple Scones

Unlike these scones, I never wear khaki. At least I haven’t since I worked at the Coffee Beanery, in high school.

But these scones can look supercool in khaki like Kendi. That’s not easy.

They’re just a fashionable breakfast.

P.S. I opted to blend up the rolled oats so that these would have an awesome texture instead of a weird texture. Also because blending oats happens in these cookies, and it works out swimmingly.

But give these scones a shot! I bet they’ll make your house smell like a maple miracle. I bet you’ll do cooler designs on top than I did.

Oh! Care to split a scone? … actually, I want my own. Is that cool?

Oatmeal Maple Scones {makes 8}
Recipe adapted a bit from Orangette + dreams of this one

Ingredients:

  • 6 T milk
  • 2 T pure maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter, cubed and chilled
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 T dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats, blended until coarse

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat together the milk, maple syrup, egg, and vanilla; set aside. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Rub butter into the flour mixture with your hands. Working until you have no lumps bigger than a pea. Add the sugars and blended rolled oats. Stir or toss to mix.
  3. Add half of the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Bring dough together gently with a wooden spoon. Add more of the milk/mixture as needed. You might not need it all.
  4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it no more than 12 times. (12 is the magic number, so exceed at your own risk!) Pat dough into a round approximately 1/2 inch thick, and cut into 8 wedges. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden. Cool on a rack. Drizzle with icing.
Follow your heart when you glaze these. I sure did!
Maple Icing
Recipe from fall dreamin’
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 T butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 T pure maple syrup
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 t milk
Directions:
  1. Whisk together melted butter and 3/4 cup powdered sugar. Add maple syrup and beat until combined.
  2. Add remaining powdered sugar a tablespoon at a time, mixing between additions.
  3. Transfer glaze to a sandwich bag. Snip a corner and drizzle fun swirls over your scones. Sprinkle with rolled oats if you want.

Oooh, I love your elephant, and your nails, and everything…also, I hate when someone wants to split something delicious with me and I just want my own. How do you respond to that?

Love your icing swirls! They remind me of the days when toaster strudel first came out and I tried fancy things like your swirls, but it never quite panned out. These look totally UNshareable!

I always look like frump-city when I wear khaki, these scones totally pull it off with style and class though. The sweet, icing swirls are the perfect accesory! Sometimes you can only share when there’s double of something…like sharing 2 different pizzas instead of one, right?!
PS I need some flowers for my pink elephant stat! Not only are they 2 of 5 left in the WHOLE WORLD, but also so versatile…who knew!?

Gotta tell you…I am wearing khaki capri’s as I type this…AND I have these almost ready to come out of the oven..they smell wonderful! And I will drizzle them nicely in a bit <3

I’m new to your blog but from what I see scrolling around we share a deep love of scones. A love that has a strong fire in me and a flame I want to fan. I want to fan the flame with these scones.
