Cardamom Sour Cream Waffles

by Megan on April 13, 2011

I know. These just look like brown waffles.

Don’t be fooled by their snooze-fest outfits, they are: flavorful, crispy-edged, spiced, brown waffles.

Cardamom is such a unique spice. It’s warm and almost citrus-y? I don’t know how to explain it, but let me tell you, it’s tasty.

Honesty, I’d like to make these again and sandwich cinnamon ice cream in the middle of one, and eat one like a burrito. That’s just me, though.

Cardamom Sour Cream Waffles {makes 7-8 waffles}
Recipe adapted from Gourmet via Epicurious

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 t baking powder
  • 3/4 t baking soda
  • heaping 1/4 t salt
  • 1 t ground cardamom*
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 T honey
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 T unsalted butter, melted

toppings –

  • berries, maple syrup, honey, or powdered sugar

* If you’re nervous about cardamom switch it out for cinnamon.

Directions:

  1. Preheat your waffle iron. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cardamom.
  2. In another bowl whisk together wet ingredients: milk, sour cream, vanilla, honey, eggs and melted butter. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  3. Spray waffle maker with cooking spray or brushed oil and cook according to manufacturers directions.

Elliot’s just such a good listener.
