Sweet Pretzels

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine involved multiple lady dates. Friday was all about garlicky shawarma sandwiches and hummus downtown. Saturday involved sharing a pitcher of margaritas and fajitas for two with this lovely lady. My weekend totally involved these sweet pretzels too. They are made from the sweet dough in the April issue of Bon Appetit! It’s brioche-esque and buttery. And with the sugar on top these are like eating a…

Cinnamon Scrolls {a 30 minute miracle}

Let’s eat weekend-breakfasts during the week. Let’s trick our mornings. These thoughtfully come together quickly with pantry ingredients. It has a lot to do with the fact that these start out with cold butter and are yeast-less. These taste like cinnamon roll biscuits. Jake said that these would be tasty with maple syrup on them. I totally agree. And I think we all know Elf would also be down with that. Rumor has it these…

Dutch Apple Cheesecake + Pumpkin Tiramisu {Thanksgiving 2011}

My thanksgiving was so bright I had to wear shades. And it was delicious. See that jell-o? It’s a rainbow under that green. My nephews love it. My niece can’t get enough of it. There was also The Pioneer Woman’s sweet potatoes, in that blue dish back there. They taste like what sweet potatoes should taste like as dessert… but as a side dish. On each plate there are two kernels of indian corn. Every year…

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Turkey O’Clock is approaching. And at the moment I’m in Minnesota hanging out in the kitchen with my mom. I just can’t wait to share with you guys what her and I are making this year for dessert. (I’ll be posting them next week!) The truth is, I made these cookies before I left. It’s important to me for Jake to have a constant supply of cookie-goodness while I’m gone. These remind me of what…

Grandma’s Molasses Cookies

These cookies are bringing wrinkles back. Good thing, because I rarely iron. Even when I’m wrinkly. I just decide to believe it when Jake tells me that my outfit looks like “it’s supposed to be like that.” But “like that” means wrinkled. Ever since I made those large marge cookies, I’ve just been thinking that bigger cookies are better. I mean, if the cookie’s bigger than there’s more chewy center to love, right? Cookie middles are…

Bite-Size Pumpkin Cream Pies

Because sometimes I post things fashionably late. Because sometimes I want to eat a whole pie in one bite (like I’m a giant). Because I’ve been messing things up lately. Because I made this filling twice. Because occasionally I’m a total custard amateur. So, sometimes pies work out even if you mess them up at first. And they are extra good with a friendly mini ghost on top. What it comes down to is that…

Mini Pumpkin Cupcakes + Cinnamon Vanilla Bean Whipped Buttercream

These cupcakes go really well with watching Hocus Pocus, gold pumpkins, and flannel shirts. Oh, and is Hocus Pocus a musical sometimes? Weird. I ran out of mini muffin papers. So I just used small squares of parchment again. I think they worked out well as cupcake outfits. Even though it creates nooks for the cupcake batter to be ridiculous. So make these! Pass them out to trick-or-treaters. Toss them in that pillow case! Except,…

Mini Pumpkin Black & White Cookies

I’m really into fall. For example, last weekend I spray painted pumpkins gold and topped them off with glitter with my fall-loving friend Cindy. I’ve been wearing tights, painting my nails navy, and walking Elliot over neon leaves. I’ve also been making pumpkin everything. Pumpkin roll, pumpkin pup treats, and now these black and white cookies. So if you’ve got fall fever (which is way better than Bieber fever) you should totally make these! Because pumpkin…

Cider and Donut Cupcakes

It’s just one of those weeks. The kind where I bought 2 bottles of shampoo, thinking I had a conditioner. And my alarm was set for early o’clock more often than not. But it’s all good now because we have cider and donut cupcakes! And tomorrow is Jake’s birthday so we are going to eat good food and go on adventures all weekend. And fall is the best time for birthdays. Because then you can…

Pumpkin Roll

Until yesterday, I’d never made a successful pumpkin roll. I was in charge of bringing one to Thanksgiving about 3 years ago. I made one, and it ripped when I rolled it. So I made another one, and that one ripped too. I wrapped up the mangled pumpkin roll. Put it in a cooler and drove to Thanksgiving. Needless to say, it was one ugly dessert, and I think the kids were scared of it.…
