Yesterday was warm in the mitten, and it was the best day! I rode my bike all over town and carb loaded pizza-style with beers. It made me excited for summer. I have picnics and post-picnic cookies on my mind.
I’m totally going to be making these cookies this summer. I love them! They’re basically chocolate chip cookies with some citrusy subtlety. Since orange and dark chocolate are one of my most favorite combos I figured why not make that marriage work cookie-style. What do you think?
P.S. I’m totally getting sick. I sound like a frog right now so I obviously need vitamin-C in my life. I can’t imagine a better way to get it than through a cookie.
Orange Chocolate Chunk Cookies {makes 4-ish dozen}
Recipe adapted from my mom’s chocolate chip cookie recipe
Ingredients:
- zest from one orange
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 2 t vanilla
- juice from half an orange
- 3 cups flour
- 1 t baking soda
- 1 t kosher salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Rub the zest from one orange into the granulated sugar until moistened and orange scented.
- Make the dough, f’sho. Using an electric mixer cream the butter and sugars together until fluffy. Add the eggs, vanilla, and juice from half the orange. Mix until all combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture and beat until smooth and everything is combined. Stir in the chocolate chips. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or over night.
- Place heaping teaspoons of cookie dough a couple inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is light still, but no longer shiny. Remove cookies from the oven and transfer to a wire rack until cool. Eat a few while warm and then save the rest for later!

Coolin’ out being cool.
I didn’t even know you had a bike…we could totally ride bikes, like we’re 10 and stick Lisa Frank stickers all over them!
Cookies with vitamin C are just the way to go…take naps, eat cookies, feel better soon! <3!
I do! It’s currently in a puddle right now in the backyard. It’s such a hassle to lug to the basement and back always! And yeah, we should bike it up.
<3 Thanks, guuuurl!
that looks and sounds uber amazing! do they turn out soft & chewy? (those are my fave kinds of cookies…) either way, i think i might try this! love your blog, btw!
They are totally a soft and chewy type cookie. Those are my favorites too!
<3 Yay I love your blog too! Thanks!
The weather was gorgeous in Minneapolis too! Your cookies looks scrumptious. Excited to try them.
Yay! Isn’t nice weather in March so fun?! Because in Michigan and Minnesota it can totally go either way. Winter or spring.
I hope you like these!
So jealous, Vancouver is cold, rainy, and fugly. These, on the other hand, look warm, gooey and delicious. Mmm
Shucks! I hope Vancouver musters up some sun for you soon! And thanks! These guys would totally brighten your day and town even, I bet!
Looks delicious! I love the combination of chocolate and orange so I know I would love this.
Yeah man! Orange and chocolate are total BFFs. Way to know it.
I’m loving the current Michigan weather, too! Hope you feel better soon! I can totally get behind vitamin C cookies when I’m sick. I was just looking at my abandoned bottle of multi-vitamins, yet I continue to neglect it. Maybe I should grind them up in chocolate chip cookies, too. I think you’re onto something!
Yes! It’s the best weather ever. I plan on sitting in the sun all weekend and riding my bike and drinking beer on patios!
Oh man, I’m the worst at vitamins. I’ll just eat more cookies. 🙂
